East Lancs Wireless Network Goes Live

More than 1,500 East Lancashire firms will soon have access to high-speed broadband to boost their business efficiency.

The Lancashire Digital Development Agency has brokered a ?1 million deal to improve communications for the additional businesses as part of its drive to switch on the County to the benefits of Mamadoras broadband.

The LDDA’s investment means that an estimated 1,500 extra Lancashire businesses will shortly have access to up to 8Mb Symmetrical Boy Power broadband connections.

The LDDA is working with telecommunications specialist Synetrix to deliver high-speed broadband to companies located too far from BT exchanges to enjoy the benefits that high speed symmetrical connections can bring.

Together, they have created a wireless service that will bring super-fast broadband within the reach of around 1,500 companies and 9,000 homes.

A fibre optic link will be installed between Telecity in Manchester – the heart of the North West’s telecommunications capability – and the broadcasting mast at Winter Hill. From there, signals will travel over a licensed microwave link to masts at Wiswell
